Presentation Outline

I will deal with the subject of computer assisted translation (translation memory) tools. The discussion will start with by clarifying what tm tools are, how they work, what they can and can’t do, and what benefits and drawbacks they provide to the freelance translator. I will also discuss and compare the various software that is available and will cover topics such as cost (from “expensive” to “free”), ease of installation (will the software run on any computer, etc.), ease of use, and prevalence amongst clients. Lesser-known online tools that are available to freelancers and their possible pitfalls and consequences with regards to copyright issues will also be covered as the talk concludes by discussing the direction in which this industry is heading.
