6. Summary of the Special Meeting on the International Journal Project
A special JAT directors' meeting was held on Dec. 9, 1998 on the international journal project to coincide with Judy Wakabayashi's two-day stopover in Tokyo. Although the decision to join the project by both the ITI and the JLD, prospective partners of the journal project, is still pending, the following decisions were tentatively made based on this meeting.
JAT will sponsor a refereed journal that will feature academic and professional articles on translation issues. It will initially be published biannually and produced in electronic form only. The Forum, published by the Asian Studies Department, the University of Queensland will merge with this journal. Some of the issues that are currently being considered and explored are publishing the journal under a commercial publisher, publishing it on a semi-do-it-ourselves operation with some of the work contracted to outside parties, free subscriptions for JAT members, electronic subscriptions for outside parties, as well as others. The aim is to offer JAT members an additional value-added benefit for joining and supporting JAT, in addition to creating a publication that will serve as an ideal blend of professional and scholarly content. The JAT Bulletin will be maintained as a forum for internal JAT issues and announcements.
7. Newly Revised JAT Constitution
A-close-to-final draft of the proposed revised JAT constitution has been submitted to the board by the Constitution Committee. The directors were asked to send in their specific comments by Dec. 26 for further discussions. A notice on the referendum for the new constitution and a copy of the revised constitution will be mailed to all members along with the JAT director election ballots on February 1, 1999.
8. Elections Committee
The elections committee for the 1999 election of JAT directors has been
appointed. The committee members are Pamela Ikegami (chair), Hiro Sato,
and Kathleen Taji.
